Terms & Conditions
1. Acceptance of Terms
By accessing, downloading, or using the Open Translation Bible (OTB), whether from this website or from any official distribution channel, you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions (“Terms”). If you do not agree, you should discontinue use of the OTB immediately.
2. Open Licence
The OTB is published under an Open Source / Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike licence (CC BY-SA)
This means you are free to:
-
Copy and share the text in any format.
-
Adapt, translate, or build upon the text.
-
Use the text for personal, educational, religious, or commercial purposes.
On the condition that:
-
You give proper attribution to the Open Translation Bible project.
-
You share derivative works under the same or compatible licence.
3. No Fees, Royalties, or Exclusive Rights
The OTB is provided free of charge. No person, organisation, or entity may claim exclusive rights, charge royalties, or restrict access to the OTB text. Derivative works must remain open under the same licence terms.
4. No Warranties
The OTB is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied. This includes but is not limited to warranties of accuracy, reliability, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
The OTB text is based on a modal-average translation process and is intended for study and distribution. However, accuracy, theological interpretation, and suitability for specific use cases are not guaranteed.
5. Limitation of Liability
Under no circumstances shall the authors, contributors, or distributors of the OTB be liable for any damages or claims arising from the use, misuse, or reliance upon the OTB. Use of the OTB is entirely at your own risk.
6. Intellectual Property
While the OTB text itself is licensed openly, the name “Open Translation Bible” and associated logos, branding, and website content may be protected by copyright, trademark, or other intellectual property rights. These materials may not be used in a misleading, defamatory, or unauthorised manner.
7. Contributions
By submitting contributions (translations, edits, or other content) to the OTB project, you agree to licence your contributions under the same CC BY-SA (or equivalent) terms, so that they can be freely incorporated into the project and distributed under the same open licence.
8. Modifications to Terms
The OTB project maintainers may update or modify these Terms at any time. Changes will be effective upon posting to the official OTB website. Continued use of the OTB after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
9. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and interpreted according to the laws of the jurisdiction in which the OTB project is primarily maintained, unless otherwise required by local law.
