Open Source Bible Translation
The world's first open-source Bible under CC BY-SA 4.0
The Open Translation Bible is the world's first truly open-source Bible. Released under CC BY-SA 4.0, it guarantees freedom to share God's Word forever.
What Makes It Open Source?
Unlike public domain Bibles (WEB, ASV), the CC BY-SA 4.0 license ensures that all derivative works must also remain free. This protects the Bible from ever being locked behind copyright restrictions.
The Problem with "Public Domain" Bibles
- World English Bible (WEB) — Print licensing restrictions have emerged
- Berean Standard Bible (BSB) — Page layout copyright restrictions could one day exist
- American Standard Version (ASV) — Subsequent derivative versions were not protected
- King James Version (KJV) — In the UK, Crown Copyright applies
CC BY-SA 4.0: True Freedom
- Share Freely — Copy, redistribute, and share the Bible without restrictions
- Adapt & Modify — Create derivative works, translations, and adaptations
- Commercial Use — Print and sell copies — no permission needed
- Forever Free — All derivatives must also be CC BY-SA 4.0
